Your turn.

You read my story. Now I want to hear yours. Tell me what the book meant to you. Your words come straight to me — Patrick.

Why I Write

I write because I want to help people. Let me be clear about what that does and doesn't mean. I'm not saying I'm better than you. I'm not above anybody. What I have is more scars, more mistakes, more consequences, and more lessons I learned the hard way. That's it. If I've already walked through something you're walking into, then let me stand in the gap for you. Take what I paid for and use it, so it costs you less than it cost me. I don't want my pain to end with me.

The Panther — Why It's Our Mascot

The panther isn't a logo I picked because it looked good on a shirt. It's mine. I went to Jordan High School in Long Beach, California. Our mascot was the Panther. That's where I come from, and I carried it with me into Dolly Nation because it's part of who I am and where I've been. A panther doesn't panic and it doesn't quit. It's quiet, it's patient, and it keeps moving no matter what's in front of it. That's what strength and perseverance look like to me — not loud, just steady, and unwilling to stop. Navy and white are our colors. Navy for the nights that were hard and the depth it takes to get through them. White for honesty — telling the truth about where I've been instead of dressing it up. So when you see the panther, that's Dolly's Don't Quit. That's You Are Not Alone. That's Community Above Commerce. The mascot carries the heart, not the merchandise.
